What a split sheet is for
A split sheet records who did what on a song and who gets which share. It separates two things: the composition (lyrics and music, the songwriting side your PRO or The MLC handles) and the master (the recording). It does not transfer any rights, but it prevents disputes later and is the basis for registering the song.
The easiest time to fill it in is the day of the session. Negotiating after a hit is much harder.
Heads-up: the templates are French
The templates are written in French, for French law, and each ends with a notice that it is not legal advice. The split sheet logic (composition shares and master shares, each 100%) applies anywhere, but if you are in the US or UK, have a lawyer check any contract, and register with your own PRO (ASCAP, BMI, PRS). The app is in French for now.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a split sheet?
- A document signed by everyone who worked on a song, stating each person’s share of the composition (lyrics and music) and of the master (the recording).
- Is a split sheet required?
- No, but it prevents disagreements and prepares your song registration. Sign it before the song is released.
- Why two splits, composition and master?
- They are two different rights: the composition belongs to its writers, the master to the owner of the recording. Each set of shares must add up to 100%.
- Are the templates legally binding?
- They are starting templates written for French law, not legal advice. Have important contracts checked by a lawyer.
